My Preaching
Christmas Eve Message
The poet William Blake captures in a few divinely stated words our human desire to know God when he writes:

To see a World in a Grain of Sand
And a Heaven in a Wild Flower
Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand
And Eternity in an hour

When I was confirmed, I learned how the church expands on
our sense of wonder in the first question of the Shorter Catechism:

What is my true purpose in life? To glorify and enjoy God forever.

When I minister from the pulpit, at a sacrament, or for a commitment ceremony, I preach the wonder of glorifying God and the immense delight we can have when we know God. Knowing God transforms ordinary activities of buying and selling, of raising a family and going to work, of leisure and rest, into times tinged with the colors of God's love. I am enthralled by the breathtaking beauty of creation, and appalled by the evidence of sin - the wanton injustice, hatred, disease and suffering that accompanies the wonder of life.

I embrace the radical optimism of Julian of Norwich:
All shall be well, and all manner of thing shall be well.

God enters our world and our lives through Jesus Christ so that
we can glorify and enjoy God forever.
